Over the past four years, the BBC World Service has expanded its multimedia operations in Africa by doubling the number of language services from 6 to 12.Three of the new language services, Amharic,
Tigrinya and Afaan Oromo, are serving our audiences in Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as a large Diaspora community. There is a strong emphasis on reaching and connecting with young audiences.
We are now looking for an excellent Planning Broadcast Journalist with strong digital journalism, language and organisational skills to join our planning team.

Role and Responsibilities
You will support the three service editors in coordinating breaking news coverage and in particular liaising with them to ensure deployments and sharing of material across the wider BBC. You will also
work with East Africa Planning SBJ to plan the production of longer term digital content across the region.
You will work with Services Editors to research and plan big interview bids which are relevant to the target area. You’ll also support reporters in delivering timely and standout coverage for BBC platforms
in the three languages, as well as other languages in the region. You will be responsible for setting and managing realistic deadlines.
Requirement
Firstlly, having an experience within a digital media environment. Fluent in English and at least one of Amharic, Tigrinya and Afaan Oromo, you will have experience of delivering creative output.
Field reporting experience is an advantage.
In addition, An excellent knowledge of local, regional and international news and current affairs is essential; so also a good understanding of a broad editorial agenda.
And also you will have knowledge of and recent experience of living in the target area, and a good understanding of the complexities of the Horn of Africa region.
Ability to work under pressure and react to breaking news is essential. Organisational skills are required.

Job Title 2:Journalist (BBC Amharic Service)
Role Responsibility
Here as a Journalist with the Amharic team, you will create content to maximise the BBC World Service’s impact and potential in Africa.
The role will involve researching, interviewing original sources and writing reports, for the BBC Amharic website in a range of formats.
As well as being the first to respond to breaking news stories, you will help to produce and/or present the BBC’s live radio programme and create original and creative content to drive the BBC Facebook page and other social media platforms.
Requirement
The ideal candidate will have recent and relevant experience as a journalist and have a full command and up to date knowledge of written and spoken Amharic.
A good knowledge of English, both written and spoken is important.
You will be able to create original content with the ability to write, adapt and translate with accuracy, clarity and style for differing audiences and forms of social media.
Experience of reporting, in the field, on political and economic issues would be advantageous.
